Kevin from On Repeat Records posited the question below, which was originally from Gabbie at https://www.newbandsforoldheads.com
“name the last band or record they found without the internet”
I walked into a record store in Pisa, Italy, and asked the fellow behind the counter if there were any Italian prog bands he would recommend. He showed me a few, and I chose an album by the band Area, Maledetti (Maudits), solely based on the cover art. It took another week of travel in Europe before I got home and put it on the turntable. I don’t know how to describe it. Discogs has it labelled as “Free Jazz, Avantgarde, Free Improvisation, Prog Rock,” whatever the hell that means. It has some weird shit and isn’t an album for the faint of heart or for someone who has been fed only pop music their entire life. I have listened to it twice, and it will be a long time till the third spin on the turntable.
I didn’t listen to it this week, but I did listen to a lot of good music. Music from the Grand Ole Opry to Bibleland. From Singing Cowboys to Rebel Songs. We travelled from the Autobahn to Whitehorse. I’ll throw in some Combat Rock and California Dreamin’ through These Eyes. You may ask What’s Going On and then Do It Yourself. There was a good variety, and I feel it was time well spent listening to these tunes. Until next week, happy listening, everyone.
